One of the functions of the Campbell Bar gatherings is to provide a place for the savage breast to be soothed - pleasant company, a choice of drinks and the charms of music.
On occasions, sometimes scheduled, sometimes spontaneous, the music is "live". Within the staff at Bendigo there are performers with talent:
some are mathematicians,
some are carpenters' wives.
God gave man the ability to visualize in multi-dimensions so that he could build mosques, temples and cathedrals, He gave man an understanding of pattern and rhythm so that he could create music for his pleasure. (Go on - be politically correct and evolutionally sound and express that idea in a single line of prose!) It is because the skills of visualization and the understanding of pattern can be used for the investigation of mathematics that mathematicians exist. It follows, also, that mathematicians are oftenfine musicians.
