OWED to Arthur - Taken to the cleaners.
I had the money in me hand - the money to put on SAINTLY
The jockey had God's blessing - then Arthur whispered faintly
"Arthur who?" I hear you cry - why Arthur-the-Urger of course
Arthur Pace with that look on his face sure has a nose for a horse.
Arthur stood with his vac on his back and said my 'orse was an effin' old hack
'SAINTLY? Nah, won't make two miles, put it on SENATOR you'll make piles'.
He urged me to take his advice, ignore him and I'd pay the price
He urged me I should have more sense and gain from his experience
He urged me to rescind my pick, he said I had the head of a dick
He urged me not to back a loser, 'What are yer' he said 'a burnt out boozer?'
I shuddered faintly at this slight, perhaps the little buggers right
I thought I'd better go and see, those people at the TAB.
I walked in with the misses Glenda, when we were a bit less slender
I told her I'd a red hot tip, she said 'did you catch it in your zip
Again?'
'No..' I said just saving face, 'I got this tip from Arthur Pace'.
So without any more ado, we stood there in this bloody long queue.
We stood there for an hour and a quarter, the queues weren't getting any shorter
'The systems crashed' the cashier said, 'the game is lost, the track is dead'.
'But I've a hot tip from a little jockey, a vision from that cocky
little bugger I've get to get my money on that horse', the cashier said 'of course, of course'.
We hung around, it seemed an age and checked the time at every stage
And finally after all that strife, the computers leapt back into life.
I was so worked up with Arties urging, I felt the adrenaline a-surging
I went for my wallet for the ten buck bet, but pulled out a fifty - what the
heck
My fingers fumbled I pulled out TWO, that's it, that's providence giving me
clues
'A hundred on senator on the nose', a minute before the betting closed.
We watched the race in a crowded bar, second last home was Senatar
Saintly won the cup of course, a magic run from a magic horse
My wallet was a little leaner and I knew why Arthur worked here as a cleaner.
